Do we live in our body or our mind?
Sometimes we look, but we don’t see. We hear, but we don’t listen. We live in a world where our thoughts lead the way, where they rule us, where they hold all the power. We judge people before we truly know them, and we trust our own judgments like they’re facts. But we forget that they’re just thoughts.
Sometimes we see things that aren’t logical. But the more we imagine, the more we are free. How crazy is that? We are completely free to go anywhere in our minds. I can be sitting right here and suddenly be on the Titanic. I can fly. I can time travel. I can be whoever I want.
It’s beautiful to be friends with your thoughts. To sit with the crazy ones. To laugh when they’re silly. To get excited when you surprise yourself with how smart you can be. To understand that negative friends bring more negative friends, and positive ones bring more light.
As the book “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” says, you are your thoughts. Let your mind be free. Play with it. Respect it. Be friends with it. But remember, negative friends are not allowed in your home.
And maybe, just maybe, that’s the real power; to choose who gets to stay. Not every thought deserves your attention. Not every feeling deserves to become your story. You are not a victim of your mind. You are the host.
You can open the door to the thoughts that inspire you. You can close the door to the ones that try to destroy you. And when it feels too loud inside, when the visitors in your mind won’t leave, remind yourself that you have the key.
You don’t live in your body. You don’t even live in your mind. You live in the space where you choose. The space where you decide who stays and who goes.
And in that space, you are free.-Yasmina Zaytoun-
